TCM Certified Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture
Dr. Shin really understands acupuncture. He has a Doctor in Chiropractic Medicine and a Doctor in Oriental Medicine with a TCM certification. TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Not every clinician who offers acupuncture treatment has a TCM certification like Dr. Shin. This means he is fully certified to administer acupuncture in a safe and effective way.
Dr. Shin makes your pain treatment exceptional and personal.
Many Conditions Benefit from Acupuncture Treatment
Acupuncture is an excellent pain treatment for a wide range of issues, including:
Neck injuries, such a car accident injury
Lower back or shoulder pain
Menstrual cramps or pregnancy pain
Headaches, including migraines
Arthritis
Depression and anxiety
Choosing the Right Acupuncturist
It can feel overwhelming to decide which clinician is right for you. For acupuncture treatment, it's important to consider:
Their credentials. Are they fully certified? What’s their educational background?
Insurance coverage. Does your current coverage help you pay for treatment? If you’re not sure, you can always contact the clinic to find out.
Patient reviews. Are former patients offering high praise for the clinic? Check out patient reviews and see if anyone with your issue was treated at the clinic before.
The Eastern vs. Western Approach to Acupuncture
Western medicine teaches that acupuncture stimulates activity in your muscles or nerves. It’s like an anti-inflammatory for your body, but without the medication.
Oriental medicine teaches that a body has natural pathways of energy, called chi. Sometimes this energy flow can be disrupted. Acupuncture from this perspective is about balancing the body's flow of energy.
Dr. Shin considers both philosophies in his approach to acupuncture treatment. This makes KAC Clinic a very safe and all-encompassing pain treatment choice in Kansas City.

FAQs
-
Of course! Acupuncture is used throughout Asia alongside modern medicine as a trusted part of the healing process. It’s as normal to get acupuncture in South Korea, China, and Japan as it is to go to the dentist for a checkup. It’s been steadily growing in popularity in the United States as a non-surgical alternative.
-
So many. For example, it can stimulate the healing process for neck pain caused by a recent car accident. It’s also an excellent long-term treatment option for chronic pain.
-
Dr. Shin will administer your acupuncture needles, not a nurse. He is a TCM-certified acupuncturist. A TCM certification means that he has a Doctor in Oriental Medicine from an accredited university. It also means that he completed the required clinical hours under professional observation. He also tested and met the national board of requirements to administer acupuncture.
Although many chiropractors use acupuncture in their practice, we believe Dr. Shin has a deeper knowledge of how to use it to help patients. This is because of his dual doctorates in Oriental Medicine and Chiropractic Medicine.
-
Small needles are inserted into specific places of the body called acupuncture points. This causes the body to release chemicals in the brain, spinal chord, and muscles that stimulate the body’s healing process.
It’s the same idea behind when you cut your finger. Your body automatically goes into action to heal the injury. Acupuncture triggers this same response throughout the body, but in a gentle way. Although the process seems mysterious, the results are quite practical.
-
Usually, you don’t even feel them. If you do feel the needle, it’s typically very faint or like a small pinch. This is because of a lot of stagnation or muscle tension in that part of the body being stimulated suddenly.
Don’t worry! It is nothing like an injection needle. Acupuncture needles are so small they look like tiny hairs.
-
You may feel some lingering tenderness after acupuncture in some areas you received treatment. These are the areas of your body that are experiencing the most stimulation and recovery from the treatment.
But, pay attention to the pain. You should also notice a spike in wellbeing and pain relief in those areas after an hour or so, as healing activates in those areas of the body.
-
For your first visit, we do a series of initial tests depending on your pain needs. These can include x-rays, range of motion tests, or even posture tests.
If Dr. Shin thinks acupuncture is a helpful part of pain treatment for you, he will help you feel comfortable. Rest assured that our clinic is a safe and peaceful first-time experience.
